Please timestamp your screenshots[edit]
Hi!
I am trying to work on the backlog for YT reviews, and it would really be great if you could timestamp the screenshots you take from YT video's... For instance for this one, I am failing to find the image captured in the linked video: can you help me by providing the timestamp of the YT video that the screenshot was taken? Thanks! - @Ciell: Sorry for the confusion! The wrong video was used as the source. I've corrected it. – Pbrks (t • c) 15:21, 12 January 2023 (UTC)

File:Enza Petrilli (podium archery Tokyo 2020).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

On pictures by user Eloibg[edit]
Hi @Pbrks. I reach you because of the deletion tags on the files by @Eloibg, which is a user that I am mentoring now on ca.wiki and Commons. There's a mix of two circumstances:
- Images that do really have no proper OTRS permission and should be deleted: Eloibg requested a picture when taking a free voice sample from those people, and they provided him a professional image from the TV archive, which indeed has no written authoritzation from the broadcaster's (TV) archive. These files are: File:2014 TV3 ImmaPedemonte.png (from 2014), File:1991 RamonPeris Petri-monopatí.jpg (1991), and File:2000 MariPauHuguet.jpg (2000). I kindly request their immediate suppression as they are currently a copyright violation.
- However, as a fellow wikipedian, I can give proof that Eloibg works for the Catalan National public TV (Corporació Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals, CCMA) and has direct access to the TV sets and their public figures, from which he directly took the other pictures marked as suspected: File:20221223 324 EsteveSolerGranel.jpg, File:20221229 PereEscobarRoyo.jpg, File:20221219-TV3-CEI-PlatóEsports-LluísCanutPermanyer.jpg, and File:2022 MartaRomagosa-CatRàdio-CatI Tarragona.jpg. These files are legit artworks from the user, and therefore they should be kept in the project. In fact, a search of his real name on Google yields him working there (I don't think there's a need for disclosure of his full name, until explicitly asked).
I will follow up on @Eloibg's uploads until he has a bit deeper knowledge on the licensing. There's a chance to agree on a partnership with the CCMA, and that would probably go along with massive OTRS permissions and an institutional account for the uploads. Best! Xavier D. - I tagged myself the first group for a speedy delete and removed the warnings for the second group. Kind regards and thank you for your patrolling tasks! Kind regards. Xavier D. (Messages) 12:08, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Xavier Dengra: Hello. I don't think that was the correct thing to do in this case. Even if Eloibg has access to these images, they are still not the copyright holder of these works. These items still need verification through COM:VRT. – Pbrks (t • c) 15:00, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Pbrks: hi again. What do you mean? While for the case 1 those images must be suppressed as a clear copyright (clear mistake), in case 2 he is the intellectual and material author of those pictures. He works in that place and he is the person who took them with his phone as a Wikipedian. Whatever comes in the future as a massive multimedia cession from the archives of the broadcaster, after a possible agreement, is completely another story. But he has the rights to walk around the sets and to post and release his personal pictures under the CC-0 (same way he does for the audio files dedicated to the voice intro project). Best, Xavier D. (Messages) 15:23, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Xavier Dengra: I see, my mistake, I misread your original comment. Everything looks good, I see his Twitter account as well has reposted some of the images after uploading them on Commns, and I see no reason to distrust that he is indeed the copyright holder. Thanks for you patience, cheers! – Pbrks (t • c) 18:43, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

Categories renaming[edit]
Greetings. If you're renaming categories, please also update P373 property in linked Wikidata items, like this. Otherwise Wikipedia articles (like ru:Smix) would have wrong link in infoboxes. Facenapalm (talk) 03:43, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Facenapalm: Hello. Sorry, I thought that was automatically updated. Thanks for letting me know! – Pbrks (t • c) 03:53, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks!
For some reason Wikidata has two links to Commons, the first one is set as an interwiki, and the other one is set as a property. Only the first one is updated automatically. Unless there's some bot I don't know about. Facenapalm (talk) 04:06, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks!
Cite image for masters thesis[edit]
Hello
I am writing a masters thesis and I would like to use on of your drawings, from the Manifolds Wikpedia page. It is one of the most clear drawings that I have seen (which I thank you for). Although it is not allowed to cite wikipedia content (this is not a hard rule, but a strong suggestion). Is there another way I can cite you for the image so that I can still use it in my masters thesis?
The image I am talking about: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Circle_with_overlapping_manifold_charts.png
I thank you in advance! 2A02:1812:173C:A210:C90B:3E8:6E50:58FA 00:47, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
- @2A02:1812:173C:A210:C90B:3E8:6E50:58FA: Hello. Wikimedia Commons, where this file is hosted, is just an image repository. I am sure you will be using the image simply as a visual aid to describe manifolds, so I would not worry too much about using Wikipedia as a source of information, since you really are not. I would recommend citing the image in the following manner:
- Circle with Overlapping Manifold Charts (c) Ryan Wilson (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Circle_with_overlapping_manifold_charts.svg). CC BY-SA 3.0.
- Of course, speak with your advisor about this. If this something you are not comfortable doing, you can cite it as
- Ryan Wilson, personal communication. CC BY-SA 3.0.
- Let me know if you have any questions. – Pbrks (t • c) 01:59, 17 February 2023 (UTC)

License review[edit]
I was wondering if you could review files: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Adassa_in_2021.png https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Darrow_in_2021.png and https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Swae_Lee_in_Feb_2019.png ? Shoot for the Stars (talk) 19:36, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Shoot for the Stars: Done. In the future, if you are capturing images from YouTube, you should upload them as JPGs, and not PNGs. PNGs do not scale well when creating thumbnails and are much larger in file size. – Pbrks (t • c) 21:14, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for the review. Also, thank you for letting me know about the YouTube files. I had no idea having them as PNG would make them worse. From now on, I'll upload images from YouTube using JPG. Shoot for the Stars (talk) 21:25, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
