Please Stop moving to City Council[edit]

Local government areas are known as City of, Shire and some rare cases will have Council but moving City of Liverpool to Liverpool City Council was incorrect. The City Council is the administration not the government area. Bidgee (talk) 21:42, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Bidgee: the name of the LGA is Liverpool City Council though and not “The City of Liverpool”. Is there something I’m missing? That’s the official name of the LGA. - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 21:50, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Liverpool City Council is not the LGA. Please do not move things you do not understand and please use COM:CFD from now on. Bidgee (talk) 21:52, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Bidgee: Can you provide a source for that? I live in that LGA. Incidentally, I’ve been taking photos of the whole of the LGA, what do you think? I’ve noticed some fantastic photos you have taken, really great work! Anyway, if you could provide a source, I’d really appreciate it so I don't make mistakes. Peace :-) Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 21:57, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Further more Dictionary of Sydney states that Liverpool City Council is the administration. LGA’s are named differently with the exception of some of the recent amalgamated LGAs. Bidgee (talk) 22:07, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Bidgee: , I understand, but that wasn’t what I asked. Do you have a source that the LGA is officially called the City of Liverpool? It was my understanding, and backed up by the article Liverpool City Council in Wikipedia, that the LGA is now know as Liverpool City Council. I’m happy to be proven wrong, however it’s a bit confronting to be told I’m changing something I don’t know anything about, but no sources for the assertion have been supplied.
I am very happy to take this to CFD if that is what is needed. Thank you though for taking the time to message me. I appreciate your hard work and experience on Commons! - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 22:13, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
P.S. I’m currently spending the day taking photos of Hinchinbrook, I’m happy to find a source myself when I get back home. - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 22:14, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Office for Local Government typically uses just "Liverpool" however in one of the media releases the minister refers it to "city of Liverpool". Bidgee (talk) 22:19, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
and further the history of the NSW gazette shows that "City of Liverpool" is administrated by "Liverpool City Council", nothing has changed today. Bidgee (talk) 22:26, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you. Not actually a definitive statement but for now it will do, I’ll look up the appropriate registers when I get home. I hope you are having a good day! - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 22:29, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
and NSW Gazette still has it as City of Liverpool. Bidgee (talk) 22:34, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Bidgee: would you be willing to fix that on City of Liverpool (New South Wales)? - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 22:38, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Bidgee: thank you, and I am sorry about my mistake. - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 22:52, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Category:Bays in Australia and Category:Bays in New South Wales[edit]

I'm not sure what you intended to do with Category:Bays in Australia and Category:Bays in New South Wales, given that we already have the longstanding Category:Bays of Australia (created 2007) and Category:Bays of New South Wales (created in 2010). I don't see any need for these new categories in parallel to the already existing ones so I have redirected them. Calistemon (talk) 13:56, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Calistemon: Ah, I didn’t see those! I thought it was odd we didn’t have a bays category :-) really appreciate you fixing this up, and I also appreciate the message. - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 14:21, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No worries. Most such categories (e.g. for natural features like rivers, lake, etc) for Australia and a large amount for the states and territories should already exist. If it doesn't show up under "of", try "in" and vice-versa. It's not always uniform. Happy editing! Calistemon (talk) 14:26, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks mate, this is definitely great advice. If you do see any other problems, please let me know and feel free to correct! My goal is to get our NSW LGA categories straightened a little - my true goal is to document first the South West and then move outwards. - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 14:29, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Similar sort of question: Do we require Category:Rivers through New South Wales when we already have Category:Rivers of New South Wales? Calistemon (talk) 19:46, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Argh! I missed it again. No, of course now. I'll redirect. So sorry! - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 20:16, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Calistemon I see you did it already - thank you :-) and once again, sorry about missing that category! - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 20:17, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
