English: The 228 Incident broadly refers to various events starting in late February, 1947, culminating in the systematic killing of disputed number of the local elite, known and potential dissidents, and other Taiwanese by the Republic of China army under Chiang Kai-shek's Chinese Nationalist Party (Kuomintang). That was the begining ot the White terror martial law on Taïwan, that ended in 1987.

日本語: 二・二八事件は、1947年台北市で発生して台湾全土に広がった事件である。同年2月27日、台湾の台北市で闇市のタバコ売りの女性を密売取締員が殺傷する事件が起きたことに端を発し、本省人による、外省人や国民党軍や国民党政府への抗議行動や暴動が翌2月28日（二・二八）から台湾全土に広がった。これに対し、蒋介石率いる国民党政府は武力による大規模な掃討と鎮圧（弾圧）を40年間にわたって行なった。
